KANSL1, also known as KAT8 Regulatory NSL Complex Subunit 1, is a protein that plays a key role in chromatin regulation and gene expression. It is a component of the Non-Specific Lethal (NSL) histone acetyltransferase (HAT) complex, which acetylates histone proteins, particularly histone H4 at lysine 16 (H4K16ac), a modification linked to transcriptional activation and chromatin remodelling. KANSL1 contributes to the regulation of gene expression by modifying chromatin structure, with the NSL complex targeting specific genomic regions to promote an open chromatin state and facilitate transcription.
