Olive pollen

Cross-reactivity between olive pollen and certain foods is possible, particularly in people with a condition known as Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Foods that may cause reactions include:

• Related fruit and nut species, such as peaches, cherries, almonds.
• Some fresh herbs and vegetables like tomatoes and potatoes.

• If you experience seasonal allergy symptoms like nasal congestion, sneezing, or eye irritation during the olive tree pollination season.
• If you live in or frequently travel to regions with abundant olive trees and have typical hay fever symptoms.
• If your symptoms seem to be aggravated in environments near olive trees.
• If over-the-counter allergy remedies are ineffective in managing your symptoms.

• Stay indoors on days with high pollen counts, especially during windy weather or in the morning when pollen release is at its peak.
• Keep windows and doors closed during the olive pollen season to minimize indoor pollen exposure.
• Use air purifiers with HEPA filters in your home.
• Shower and change clothing after outdoor activities during the pollen season.
• Consider over-the-counter antihistamines or prescription medications for symptom relief.
• In severe cases, consult an allergist for specific treatments like allergen immunotherapy.
