Which hormones are measured in the Men's Hormone test?

Testosterone (free)
Testosterone is a hormone primarily associated with male sexual development and health, though it's also important in women. In men, it's produced mainly in the testes and is crucial for developing male reproductive tissues, promoting secondary sexual characteristics like muscle mass and body hair, and influencing libido and mood. Women produce testosterone in smaller amounts in the ovaries and adrenal glands, where it contributes to bone strength, ovarian function, and libido.
DHEA
DHEA, produced by the adrenal glands, serves as a precursor to sex hormones. Its saliva measurement reflects active hormone levels, indicating the body's immediate DHEA production. This assessment helps in evaluating adrenal function, aging processes, and risk for chronic diseases.
Cortisol
Cortisol, often recognized as the primary stress hormone, is synthesized by the adrenal glands, which are triangular-shaped organs situated on top of each kidney. This vital hormone plays a crucial role in orchestrating a multitude of physiological processes within the human body. Among its diverse functions, cortisol is intricately involved in the regulation of metabolism, modulation of immune responses, and orchestration of the body's reaction to stressors.
Progesterone
Progesterone is a hormone crucial for the female reproductive system, mainly produced in the ovaries after ovulation. It prepares the uterus for potential pregnancy and maintains it if pregnancy occurs; if not, its levels drop to trigger menstruation. Progesterone also affects sexual desire, mood regulation, and bone strength. In pregnancy, it's produced by the placenta to support the pregnancy and prepare for breastfeeding. Men have lower levels of progesterone, involved in sperm development.
Estrogen (estradiol)
Estrogen is a key female hormone, also present in men, crucial for developing and regulating the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics. In women, it manages the menstrual cycle and affects the reproductive tract, skin, and bones. In men, it's involved in libido, erectile function, and sperm production. Produced mainly in women's ovaries and in men's testes, estrogen levels fluctuate significantly during puberty, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, and menopause. Imbalances can lead to health issues like menstrual irregularities and mood swings.
Estrogen/Progesterone ratio
The Estrogen/Progesterone ratio is a crucial indicator of hormonal balance in the body, particularly in women. Estrogen and progesterone are key hormones in female reproductive health, and their balance is essential for regular menstrual cycles, fertility, mood regulation, and overall well-being. An optimal ratio ensures a harmonious interplay between these hormones, while an imbalance can lead to various health issues. This ratio changes throughout the menstrual cycle and can be affected by factors like age, lifestyle, and health conditions.

Men's Hormone Test: Hormones Analysed

Testosterone, the primary male sex hormone, is essential for regulating libido, muscle mass, and bone density. Cortisol, known as the stress hormone, reflects the body's response to stress and impacts energy levels and immune function. DHEA, a precursor to sex hormones, plays a role in producing other essential hormones. Progesterone, although typically considered a female hormone, is important in men for balancing the effects of oestrogen and maintaining a healthy prostate. Lastly, Oestrogen (specifically oestradiol, E2), often associated with female reproductive health, is also present in men and vital for healthy bones and emotional well-being.

DHEA's Role and Importance

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), or androstenolone, converts into both testosterone and oestrogen. Recognised as a powerful hormone, it enhances performance in high doses. DHEA peaks in our 20s, then declines post-30. It influences mental and physical performance, energy, memory, muscle mass, skin health, body odour, bone mass, and puberty development, contributing to youthfulness and health.

Testosterone's Functions

Testosterone fuels energy, endurance, muscle strength, and libido. Low testosterone in men can lead to erectile dysfunction, reduced muscle strength, anxiety, depression, and low energy. Conversely, excessive testosterone might cause aggression.

Understanding Cortisol Levels

This test measures your morning cortisol levels. For a full-day cortisol profile, choose the Cortisol Test, taken 7 times a day. Cortisol, produced in the adrenal glands during stress, enhances physical and mental performance in acute stress situations. Both excessively high and low levels are problematic.

Progesterone in Men

Men require progesterone for testosterone production. Low progesterone can lead to symptoms like low libido, reduced sperm quality, depression, decreased muscle mass, fatigue, and poor memory, also negatively impacting sleep.

Measuring Oestrogen in Men

Men have oestrogen in smaller amounts. High oestrogen levels can cause gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction, infertility, depression, and headaches/migraines.

I'd been having a string of inexplicable mood swings, coupled with energy dips that seemed alien to my usually upbeat disposition. Friends shrugged it off as work stress, but a nagging feeling made me wonder if there was a deeper underlying cause. I stumbled upon the Men's Hormone Test while scouring the internet. What struck me first was the packaging; neat, clinical, and reassuring. The instructions were comprehensive, making the sample collection process effortless. Even for someone like me, who isn't exactly fond of medical procedures, this was a cakewalk. Sending back the sample was straightforward, and then began the anticipatory wait. The results, when they arrived, were thorough. They weren't just a cluster of scientific jargon; instead, they explained my hormone levels in an accessible language. Comparing my levels to the standard range, I understood the gaps and fluctuations. The report made me realize how pivotal hormones are in influencing our mental and physical wellbeing. Armed with this newfound knowledge, I approached my healthcare provider, and we chalked out a plan. A few months down the line, I'm starting to feel more like my old self again. I'd recommend this test to every man out there; understanding our bodies is the first step to holistic wellness.

I'd been feeling off-balanced for months, mentally and physically. Rather than writing it off as just 'one of those phases,' I opted for the Men's Hormone Test. The process was smooth, and the insights were invaluable. Understanding my hormone levels gave me clarity and a direction to address the imbalances.
