Testosterone test Plus
The Testosterone Test Plus from GetTested measures three important hormones in blood – testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) – providing a more complete picture of hormone balance and reproductive health. The test is performed via a simple dried blood spot (DBS) sample collected at home and analyzed in our accredited laboratory.
What is testosterone?
Testosterone is a key sex hormone that plays an essential role in muscle mass, bone strength, energy, mood, libido, and overall reproductive health in both men and women. Abnormal levels can be linked to symptoms such as fatigue, low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, mood changes, and reduced physical performance.
What is LH?
Luteinizing hormone (LH) is produced by the pituitary gland and regulates testosterone production in men and ovulation in women. Measuring LH alongside testosterone helps identify whether hormonal imbalances are caused by the testes/ovaries or by pituitary function.
What is SHBG?
Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) is a protein that binds testosterone in the blood. Measuring SHBG is important because it determines how much testosterone is biologically active (free testosterone). High or low SHBG levels can therefore significantly affect symptoms even when total testosterone appears normal.
Why measure these hormones together?
Testing testosterone, LH, and SHBG together provides deeper insights into:
- Symptoms such as fatigue, low libido, erectile dysfunction, or mood changes
- Reduced fertility or irregular menstrual cycles
- Possible causes of low testosterone (testicular vs. pituitary origin)
- Hormone balance in both men and women, including free vs. bound testosterone
- Monitoring of hormone therapy or other medical treatments
When is testing relevant?
The Testosterone Test Plus may be recommended if you experience symptoms of low or high testosterone, reduced fertility, menstrual irregularities, or unexplained changes in energy, mood, or sexual health. It is also useful for monitoring hormone-related conditions or treatment outcomes.
Key benefits of the Testosterone test Plus
- Measures three key hormones: Testosterone, LH, and SHBG
- Provides insights into both total and free testosterone balance
- Helps distinguish between testicular/ovarian and pituitary causes of hormone imbalance
- Supports evaluation of symptoms such as fatigue, low libido, and reproductive changes
How the test works
The test is performed using a simple dried blood spot (DBS) sample, collected at home with a finger prick. The sample is sent to our accredited laboratory for analysis, and results are delivered digitally for secure and convenient access to your hormone health insights.
