This rapid urine-based test screens for three common causes of genitourinary infections: Gardnerella vaginalis (bacterial vaginosis), Candida albicans (yeast infection), and Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis). These conditions are widespread and may cause discomfort, but infections can also be asymptomatic. Early detection is important for reproductive and sexual health.
What does the test detect?
- Trichomonas vaginalis (TV): A sexually transmitted parasite that may cause vaginal or urethral discharge, pelvic pain, dysuria (painful urination), genital itching, and urethritis in men.
- Candida albicans (CA): The most common cause of yeast infections. Symptoms may include itching, burning, redness and swelling in the genital area, pain during urination or intercourse, and thick discharge.
- Gardnerella vaginalis (GV): A bacterium associated with bacterial vaginosis (BV). Symptoms may include thin greyish discharge, a strong fishy odor, irritation, and pain during urination. In men, GV can cause urethritis and discharge.
When is testing relevant?
Testing is recommended if symptoms such as discharge, itching, pain during urination, or genital irritation occur, or after potential exposure. For reliable results, the test should be performed at least 4–5 days after exposure, as testing too early may lead to false negative results. If symptoms continue despite a negative result, retesting is advised.
