What does the test detect?
Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) – A parasite that can cause discharge, itching, burning during urination, or urethritis in men.
Candida albicans (CA) – A yeast that often causes itching, redness, swelling, or thick white discharge.
Gardnerella vaginalis (GV) – A bacterium associated with bacterial vaginosis, which can cause thin, gray discharge with a strong odor, irritation, or burning during urination.
When should testing be considered?
Testing may be relevant if you experience symptoms such as discharge, itching, burning, or irritation, or after suspected exposure. For reliable results, sampling should be performed at least 4–5 days after exposure. If symptoms persist despite a negative result, repeat testing may be considered.
Why testing is important
Infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis and Gardnerella vaginalis have been associated with an increased risk of reproductive health complications. Candida albicans can cause recurrent infections requiring follow-up and treatment. Identifying the specific microorganism supports targeted medical evaluation and appropriate treatment.
