What This Test Measures

The Chlamydia Rapid Test detects Chlamydia trachomatis in urine.

Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacterium that is commonly transmitted through sexual contact. It can infect the mucous membranes of the genital and urinary tract and may cause symptoms, but it can also be present without noticeable signs.

Who Should Take This Test?

Choose this test if you want a fast, targeted chlamydia check at home. For higher accuracy or broader STI screening, choose GetTested’s laboratory based Chlamydia Test, STI x3 Combo or STI x4 Combo instead.

How It Works

Collect the Sample: Collect urine in the supplied plastic cup or a clean cup

Add Buffer: Carefully pour the sample buffer into the collected urine

Measure the Urine: Pipette 5 ml of urine and add it to the sample buffer tube

Mix the Sample: Attach the purple cap and rotate the buffer bottle 5 or more times

Apply to Cassette: Break off the purple top and squeeze 4 drops of liquid onto the test cassette

Read the Result: Keep the test device flat and read the result after 15 minutes

Discreet Delivery

The test is delivered in neutral and discreet packaging. The outside of the package does not indicate that it contains an STI test.

Sample Collection

The test uses a urine sample. Collect part of the urine in the supplied plastic cup or a clean cup, then prepare the sample with the included buffer according to the instructions.

For best results, use a fresh and concentrated urine sample. First morning urine is recommended when possible. Avoid urinating for 1 to 2 hours before testing.

Symptoms of Chlamydia

Chlamydia can occur without noticeable symptoms. When symptoms are present, they may include unusual discharge, burning when urinating, pain during sex, pelvic discomfort, testicular pain, rectal discharge or eye irritation.

Because symptoms can be mild or absent, testing can be useful after possible exposure or when chlamydia is suspected.

Rapid Test or Laboratory Test?

This rapid test is designed to give a quick indication of possible chlamydia infection at home. It may be useful when you want fast, private screening for one specific infection.

For the most reliable chlamydia testing, choose GetTested’s laboratory based Chlamydia Test. If you want to check for several infections from the same type of sample, choose STI x3 Combo for chlamydia, gonorrhea and Mycoplasma genitalium, or STI x4 Combo if you also want syphilis included.

Important Limitations

This is a rapid screening test for Chlamydia trachomatis. It does not test for all sexually transmitted infections and is not as reliable as laboratory based testing.

A positive result should be followed up with medical advice if treatment or confirmation is needed. If symptoms continue despite a negative result, or if you are at higher risk after possible exposure, a laboratory based STI test is recommended.

How to prepare – Chlamydia Test

Do not use this test during your period. Wait 1 to 3 weeks after possible exposure before testing and avoid antibiotics and sexual activity during this period to reduce the risk of inaccurate results or sample contamination. During the 24 hours before testing, avoid alcohol, coffee, excessive fluids and medication containing diuretics. Do not urinate for 1 to 2 hours before testing. First morning urine is recommended.

Frequently asked questions – Chlamydia Test

When should I choose the rapid test instead of the laboratory Chlamydia Test?

Choose the rapid test if you want a quick at home indication for chlamydia. Choose the laboratory based Chlamydia Test if you want the most reliable option.

When should I read the result?

Read the result after 15 minutes. Do not read it earlier than 15 minutes or after 30 minutes.

Can chlamydia occur without symptoms?

Yes. Chlamydia is often asymptomatic, meaning it may be present without noticeable symptoms. At least 70% of genital infections in women and around 50% in men may be asymptomatic at diagnosis, so testing can be useful even when you feel well.
