About the STIx4 Combo Test (Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Mycoplasma & Syphilis)
This comprehensive laboratory analysis detects four key bacterial infections — Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma genitalium, and Treponema pallidum (syphilis).
Each of these pathogens can cause serious health complications if left untreated, yet many infections remain asymptomatic. Testing regularly ensures early detection and timely treatment, helping protect both your own health and that of your partners.
What the Test Detects
1. Chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis)
Chlamydia is one of the most frequently reported bacterial STIs worldwide. It often causes mild or no symptoms, especially in women, which makes it easy to overlook. When symptoms occur, they may include abnormal discharge, pain during urination, or pelvic discomfort. If left untreated, chlamydia can lead to infertility or chronic pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
2. Gonorrhea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae)
Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection that can affect the genital tract, rectum, or throat. Symptoms may include burning during urination, increased discharge, or testicular pain in men. Many cases, however, remain asymptomatic. Untreated infection may cause serious reproductive complications and can increase susceptibility to HIV.
3. Mycoplasma genitalium
Mycoplasma genitalium is a lesser-known but increasingly recognized sexually transmitted bacterium. It can cause symptoms similar to chlamydia and gonorrhea, including urethritis, cervicitis, and pelvic pain. Because it often presents without symptoms, it can persist undetected for months, potentially leading to reproductive tract inflammation or infertility.
4. Syphilis (Treponema pallidum)
Syphilis is a bacterial infection that progresses through several stages if left untreated. Early symptoms can include painless ulcers (chancres), rash, or swollen lymph nodes. In later stages, the infection can cause severe damage to organs such as the heart, brain, and nervous system. Early detection is crucial, as syphilis is fully curable with antibiotics.
When to Take the Test
Testing too soon after potential exposure may lead to false-negative results, as the bacteria may not yet be detectable. Recommended minimum waiting times before testing are:
- Chlamydia & Gonorrhea: 7–14 days after exposure
- Mycoplasma genitalium: 14–21 days after exposure
- Syphilis: 3–6 weeks after exposure
If you experience symptoms earlier, testing sooner is still advised, but a follow-up test may be recommended after the window period.
Who Should Take This Test
The STIx4 Combo Test is suitable for anyone who may have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection or simply wishes to monitor their sexual health. It is particularly recommended for individuals who have had unprotected sexual contact with a new or multiple partners, or if a current or former partner has tested positive for an STI.
Those experiencing symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning or pain during urination, pelvic discomfort, or genital sores should also consider testing. Even in the absence of symptoms, regular screening is encouraged, as many infections can remain silent for long periods while still being transmissible.
